Stripped Down.. a manifesto

  1. Shooting must be still, no movement, zoom, or track.
  2. No transitions between scenes or special effects filters over footage.
  3. No sound that connects to the footage or no sound at all.
  4. Footage must be of black and white format.
  5. Actors must not have hair and makeup done.
  6. All lighting must be natural or available artificial light, such as lamps/street lights etc.

The aim of this manifesto is to focus solely on the pace, content, and sound of the footage, if there is any. In focusing on these elements it causes the audience to refrain from getting distracted by marveling at the colours seen in the footage, or the special effects. Stripping down the footage and going back to the basics of film, black and white, a focus on lighting and what is being captured in the frame. My choice to utilize actors in the footage without hair and makeup done, is because it is an obvious way to communicate with the audience my message, a bare face personifies the technicalities of my manifesto.
